Yurt Rental

Spend four days exploring the Western Wallowas from your own private backcountry basecamp. Choose from a variety of options to meet your group’s needs. Experienced backcountry skiers and riders: consider our self-guided options. Don’t feel like meal planning, grocery shopping, and cleanup; we can do the cooking for you. If you prefer to have professional guides break trail, manage the group dynamics, and show you the goods, consider a guided/self catered trip. Regardless of the package you choose, our basecamp will keep you comfortable with a 20′ yurt, 16×20′ wall tent, and custom sauna.  The DIY program is available in January and after mid-March. You can choose from the following:

  • Self Guided/Self Catered: For those looking for our most affordable option. Includes 2 guides on day 1 for a camp orientation and day-of guided skiing to show you around our terrain.
  • Self Guided/Fully Catered: Ideal for those who enjoy exploring new terrain, but would rather leave the food and logistics to us. Includes 2 guides on day 1 for a camp orientation and day-of guided skiing to show you around our terrain.
  • Fully Guided/Self Catered: Perfect fit for groups who appreciate being guided, but enjoy cooking their own meals. Includes 2 guides for the duration of your trip.

FAQ’S

  1. What time do hut guests meet? The guides will meet you either in La Grande or Union early on the first day. We will often meet up for breakfast and an overview of the day.
  2. What time do guests return to the parking lot? This is up to you, but the group must leave as a unit if you want your overnight gear backhauled. It is possible to ski down the road to your vehicle most of the time.
  3. How do we pay? To secure your reservation, you must pay 50% down, and the balance 90 days before your trip launch.
  4. How many people will the camp fit? The wall tent can sleep 8 guests.
  5. Dogs? Dogs are not permitted.
  6. How should we pack our food? All food should be packed in hard-sided containers or coolers. We have additional coolers and food storage at the camp.
  7. How about water? Water is made by melting snow, which is one reason we don’t allow dogs.
  8. What is the heat source? The wall tent, sauna, and yurt each have a homemade wood stove.
  9. Cell service or emergency communication? You will get reliable cell service in most of the terrain above the hut, but not at camp. We recommend you bring a Garmin InReach or similar.
  10. Can we charge electronics at the camp? Yes, we have a limited capacity to charge phones, radios, etc. Bringing a battery pack is recommended.
  11. Can we bring our own snowmobiles? Parking is limited, and turning around anything larger than a two-place trailer is not possible. Your gain will be marginal for the extra headache. We don’t start from a Sno-Park, so an Oregon Sno-Park pass isn’t required.
  12. Can we tip the guides? Yes, it is customary in the guiding industry to provide a 15-20% gratuity. Thanks!
  13. Trip Cancellation? We strongly encourage you to purchase trip insurance to protect your investment. Please read our trip cancelation policy thoroughly.
